a reflection on visuals/images: dorothea lange

I’d like to share with you an article I was assigned this week on Dorothea Lange. I was previously familiar with Lange’s work because my family is from the midwest (Missouri), and I went through a phase of becoming really interested in “grit lit”, or literature based on rural communities, the Ozarks, or immigration literature. I knew the stunning photograph of a mother with sunken in cheekbones holding her child in dirty clothes, but I didn’t know the photographer behind it. Lange’s work creates depth and captures not only the present but actual history.
